How to Have Glowing Skin all Winter Long

During the colder months, it can be tempting to hide under layers of cosy woolly scarves, comfy knits and beanies and camouflage dull winter skin under layers of foundation and concealer.

For many of us, colder temperatures tend to wreak havoc on our skin. With the slightest wind our lips become chapped, skin turns dry and patchy and the lack of sunshine and vitamin D means that our complexion can take on that dull, lifeless look.

Not all hope is lost however. With a few tips and tricks, you can keep your skin looking its best all-winter long.

Change up your skincare routine

As the weather changes, so should our skincare routine. Colder months require us to use different products that we would in the summer – with more moisturising and nourishing properties. For some women, layering facial oils underneath their normal moisturiser, provides that extra boost of moisture during the colder season.

Exfoliating becomes even more important during winter months, as our skin tends to get more dry and flaky.  Regular exfoliation helps to strip away layers of dead skin, revealing a glowing, “lit-from within” complexion. Exfoliating regularly is also key if you want your other beauty products to work.  This is because using a good quality scrub helps clear the pores and allows products to absorb much better, so they can really sink into the skin and work their magic.

Moisture and replenish overnight

Put your products to work while you are sleeping. Using a good night cream or layering facial oils underneath your moisturiser before you go to bed will guarantee that you will wake up with hydrated and plump skin. We recommend using our Extraordinary Facial Oil. It hydrates all skin types and is infused with wonder ingredients like Kalahari Melon Seed, New Zealand Flaxseed, as well as Mongongo and Kiwifruit oils.

Wear Sunscreen

Even in overcast weather, it is still important to wear sunscreen. New Zealand has really harsh sun, which stings even during the colder months. Kiwis have one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, so wearing sunscreen is a must. Find a good natural sunscreen with a high SPF and carry it with you in your bag. This way every time you look in your purse, you will be reminded to put on your sunscreen before heading outside.

Stay active

It can be really tempting to hide behind layers of warm clothing, sleep in a little longer and let your gym membership lapse in the winter months. After all, the mornings are cold, it gets dark earlier and generally it seems to be that much harder to get motivated to get out of bed, yet alone do any exercise.

However, if you want glowing, radiant skin, you should continue to exercise throughout the colder months. Exercise increases blood flow, enabling more blood cells reach your skin and deliver more oxygen and nutrients to the skin.

Invest in a do-it-all balm

Products that fulfill multiple functions are a lifesaver in winter. Something compact, that you can throw into your purse and carry with you. After all, who wants to lug all of their beauty products with them?

Our Oneness Cream Balm is the perfect treatment for chapped, chaffed or dry areas. This nourishing cream creates a natural barrier to seal in hydration and shield against natural aggressors, leaving the skin protected, nourished and revitalised.
